Debugging virtual actors
Paper presented at the IUI conference, Atlanta March 2015We are developing a new technology called interactive performance capture. Our aim is to create virtual humans that behave and respond realistically when you meet them in VR. We co-authored a paper with Dr Gillies at the Intelligent User Interfaces (IUI) conference in Atlanta (pdf) describing our UX (user experience) design process:
- Understanding how an end user (a physical performer) designs interactions with a virtual human using his body movements.
- Building an interface that allows a performer to intuitively edit and debug their performance.
- Enabling a non technical user to use complex machine learning algorithms.
